Holmberg House was built in 1914 by Professor Fredrik Holmberg and his wife Signy. Holmberg was the first dean of the University of Oklahoma's College of Fine Arts and also was the first to conduct a symphony orchestra in Oklahoma.

The Holmbergs and their two children Louise and Linné, lived on DeBarr Street until the early 1940's when the residence was purchased by Sam and Leota Hale.

Sam and Leota Hale arrived in Norman in 1929 and in 1933 opened Hales Department Store. The store was one of Norman's finest and was located at 126 E. Main Street until it closed in 1980 -- a total of 47 years. The Hales had two children -- Phyllis Hale Logan and Sam Hale, Jr.

The Hale family lived in the house until 1993 when the residence was bought and renovated by Richard Divelbis and his wife, Jo Meacham, to create a bed & breakfast.

Today, the new inkeepers, Steve and Nova McIlhaney, hope to establish a new tradition in the house that has been part of Norman's history for so long.
